There is hardly ever a time when you will understand these self-correcting tips before you can use them. When you type, you usually look at the screen, not underneath. The keyboard's auto-correct hints are probably the most useless feature of the Touch Bar. Again, using the Cmd+R The keyboard shortcut felt easier to use. For example, when manipulating images in Preview, you are presented with the Rotate Left and Rotate Right shortcuts, among others. There is a New Tab shortcut when Safari is open, but my brain is programmed to use the cmd + T shortcut already.įor Apple's own applications, the Touch Bar ends up displaying items that are either a familiar keyboard shortcut or easily visible on the computer screen. The problem is, Quick Look is faster to access by simply pressing the space bar rather than lifting my index finger towards the Touch Bar. For example, when you use the Finder, you will see a shortcut for Quick View. Most importantly, barring the niche use cases I talked about earlier, the Touch Bar in its current form does not dramatically improve the usability of a Mac. As of today, there is also no way to change the touchbar screen timeout.

Remember how I used to love seeing the elapsed time or remaining time counters during full screen video playback? Well, if you are watching a video after a minute, the touch bar is not helpful in showing you that information unless you touch the touch pad. That is, the computer screen timeout and the touchbar screen timeout are not synchronized. The next problem is that the Touch Bar turns off if you do not use the touch pad or keyboard for about a minute.
Unfortunately, there is still no way to change the brightness of the Touch Bar, even though it was released several years ago. To make matters worse, the matte finish makes the content even more difficult to see in such lighting conditions. The first complaint I have with the Touch Bar is its default brightness - it feels low when you're sitting under a bright light source.
